Field Hockey
The University of Iowa field hockey team (0-0, 0-0) will travel to Winston-Salem, NC to compete in the seventh annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Iowa will face Wake Forest in a non-conference match-up Saturday at 10 a.m. (CT). The Hawkeyes will then battle defending national champion North Carolina in another marquee non-conference match-up. That match will begin at 1 p.m. (CT) Sunday.

On page 70 of the 2008 Maine football media guide there is an entry for year-by-year results. During the 1990 season, then first-year head coach Kirk Ferentz led the rebuilding Black Bears to a 24-17 victory against Rhode Island for his first collegiate coaching victory.

Women's Volleyball
The University of Iowa volleyball team opens the 2008 season on the road at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash, hosted by the University of Alabama. The Hawkeyes will face Nicholls State in their first match Friday at 4:30 p.m. Iowa will play two matches Saturday, facing Western Kentucky at 11 a.m. and host-school Alabama at 7 p.m.

Men's Cross Country
Both the men and women's cross country teams will open the season August 29th at the Ashton Cross Country Course. The women will run a 3K at 6 p.m. with the men running a 6K at approximately 6:30 p.m. Competing teams include Iowa, Texas A&M and Wichita State.

The Iowa men's tennis team has been selected once again as an ITA Academic all-American team. To qualify, teams must achieve a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.2 or higher.

The University of Iowa soccer team concludes its season-opening homestand this weekend when they host a pair of teams from the Summit League. The Hawkeyes host Western Illinois Friday at 7 p.m. and South Dakota Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will take place at the UI Soccer Complex.

Wide receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos is one of the most charismatic and popular players on the University of Iowa football team. He is also its leading returning rusher with a not-so-whopping statistical line of two carries for 19 yards. That isn't a fact that dampens UI assistant coach Lester Erb's outlook.

The University of Iowa Baseball team will be holding a free clinic for children ages 6-12, September 7, from 10-Noon at Penn Meadows Park in North Liberty. Registration will begin at 9:15 a.m. Registration prior to camp is appreciated but walk ups will be accepted. Space is limited to 100 entrants.

Women's Soccer
The University of Iowa soccer team opened the 2008 campaign with a dominant 4-0 victory over in-state rival Drake Saturday at the UI Soccer Complex. The win over Drake was Iowa's fourth all-time (4-0-0) and marked the first season-opening win since defeating UW-Green Bay in 2002.
